One of the Top Family-friendly Towns in Charlotte, North Carolina
Indian Trail is located in Union County, North Carolina and was founded on the 12th of March, 1861. The town is well-known for the traders that used to travel along the “Indian Trail,” running from Petersburg, Virginia to the Waxhaw Indians, for gold mining. At first a quiet farming community, the area started to expand once German, and Scottish-Irish settlers moved here. Thus, the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad, a Class I railroad company was built in 1874, between Charlotte, North Carolina and Monroe, North Carolina. The railroad, now non-functioning, had a substantial financial impact on the area.
In the 21st century, the town has seen tremendous growth. Its population has grown from just 1942 people in 1990 to an astounding 3351.820 residents in only two decades. There are now 11.121 households and 9060 families that live here, with a density of 1545.4 people per square mile.
The city was listed as one of the top family-friendly towns in the country by Family Circle magazine and it is also a significant source of entertainment in the Charlotte metropolitan area, holding one of the biggest annual parades on every Fourth of July.
