Most Electric Neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina
Plaza-Midwood is a neighborhood of Charlotte City, North Carolina, located about one mile northeast of its center, commonly referred to as Uptown. It is bound by Hawthorne Lane to the west, by The Plaza to the north, Briar Creek Road to the east and the Charlotte Country Club, and the Central Avenue to the south. According to the 2010 Census, the population is 3.993.
The neighborhood was first established as a streetcar suburb of Charlotte City, back in 1910, with The Oakland Land Company being responsible for the road network. An interesting fact about Plaza-Midwood is that it had a stable economy throughout the Great Depression, but started to decline in the 1950s. The residents established the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association in 1975 to protect the neighborhood.
The city has begun flourishing in the 1990s due to massive reinvestments in housing and real estate. Now, Plaza-Midwood is known as one of Charlotte’s most eclectic neighborhoods, thanks to its art galleries, interesting shops, and restaurants.
What’s more, the residents and business operators take good care of the Historic District of the neighborhood.
